| Ewan McGregor nasce a Crieff in Scozia il 31 marzo del 1971. Stare in una piccola cittadina non l'aiuta certo a sviluppare la sua grande passione ovvero la recitazione, così abbandona il liceo a 16 anni per raggiungere il Perth Repertory Theatre, incoraggiato perfino dai genitori che sperano così di vederlo felice. Dalla Scozia all'Inghilterra il passo è breve, infatti poco dopo si trasferisce a Londra per frequentare un corso di 3 anni alla London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. A 23 anni fa il suo esordio sul grande schermo con "Le Cinque Vite di Hector" e l'anno successivo viene diretto da Danny Boyle in "Piccoli Omicidi tra Amici". Dopo il matrimonio con la scenografa francese Eve Mavrakis (di 5 anni più grande di lui), riprende il suo connubio con Boyle che lo porta ad interpretare "Trainspotting"; il film ottiene grande successo e ormai il giovane scozzese comincia ad essere considerato un attore di grande livello, al punto che George Lucas lo sceglie per interpretare Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars Episodio I - La Minaccia Fantasma". Dopo averlo ammirato anche in versione canora con "Moulin Rouge" lo abbiamo visto diretto da Ridley Scott in "Black Hawk Down" con Tom Sizemore e Josh Hartnett, ed in seguito ha completato la saga fantascientifica di Lucas in "Star Wars Episodio II - L'attacco dei cloni" e "Star Wars Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith". Intanto Ewan ha anche fondato una casa di produzione con Jude Law, Sadie Frost e Johnny Lee Miller, chiamata "Natural Nylon" che tende a valorizzare film innovativi lontani dai soliti canoni hollywoodiani. Curiosamente Ewan ha rifiutato la parte di Di Caprio in "The Beach" nel film diretto sempre da Boyle, mentre è stato scartato per la parte di Mercuzio in "Romeo+Giulietta" diretto da Baz Luhrmann che invece l'ha scelto alcuni anni dopo proprio per "Moulin Rouge". Negli ultimi anni ha recitato al fianco di Scarlett Johanson in "The Island" di Michael Bay, e con Naomi Watts in "Stay", per la regia di Marc Foster (già regista dell'acclamatissimo Neverland). Lo aspettiamo in "Stormbreaker", "Scenes of a sexual nature" e "Miss Potter", dove reciterà di nuovo al fianco di Renée Zelwegger, che ha diviso con lui la scena in "Down with love", una brillante commedia romantica sulla lotta tra i sessi. In questo periodo sta girando in Inghilterra insieme a Colin Farrell un nuovo film diretto da Woody Allen. Ewan è padre di due bellissime bambine, Clara Mathilde e Ester Rose. E' un grande appassionato di motociclette, e non molto tempo fa si è immerso in una grandiosa impresa con l'amico Charlie Boorman: hanno girato il mondo da Londra a New York in sella alle loro motociclette, e hanno raccontato le loro avventure in un libro intitolato "Long Way Round", e ne hanno prodotto una piccola serie televisiva. Una curiosità: durante il suo viaggio ha incontrato in Mongolia una piccola orfanella, che una volta tornato a Londra ha deciso di adottare e adesso vive insieme alla sua famiglia.
